Soft Washing Homes in Central, Ohio

Hiring a professional power washing company for your home or business is an easy and effective way to increase its curb appeal.

Steps to Soft Washing

Better Curb Appeal follows several steps to ensure that the job is done correctly.

  1. We assess the area around the house for delicate landscaping, furniture, open wires/outlets/lighting, etc. that might be affected by the chemical solution.
  2. Our crew then takes steps to protect your valuables.
  3. Better Curb Appeal will need to hook up to your water but the cost to you is low about $2-$3 worth.
  4. Next, we set up all our equipment and connected the hose to our machine. One hose connects to your spigot and the other is used to do the power washing
  5. We then apply the chemical to the house with a very low pressure called a “Soft Wash”.

What is Soft Wash and Why is it Better?

Soft wash kills organic contaminants like molds and mildews, as well as cobwebs and pollen from the siding, trim, and gutters…..without damaging them.

The low pressure is like a garden hose stream. This is very important as the “old school” way of blasting the house with high pressure can damage it and/or leave unsightly spray markings.

High pressure also doesn’t do as good of a job as it doesn’t kill the actively growing organics. It often looks clean but there are many places that will still have organic material left over.

This leads to its continued growth of anything organic. Often times the north side of a property would need to be cleaned again within a year or so. This costs you the customer more time and money.

How the Soft Wash Chemical Works on the Home

Once we apply the soft wash chemical on the siding or roof the chemical has to sit on the house for around 10 minutes. We may have to do a 2nd or even 3rd coating.

We can typically tell when we give an estimate if multiple coatings will be needed which does affect the overall cost slightly as more chemical is needed as well as a little more time.

In some cases, we have to get an extension pole with a brush to help loosen up a heavy build-up of lichen or algae on the gutters, downspouts, and/or windows. Our goal is to get them as clean as possible.

The green or black mold will turn brown and then start to disappear quickly. This is when we know the organic material has been killed.

At this point, we rinse the soft wash chemicals off the home from the top down. This is a low-pressure rinse, we don’t want to damage the siding or disturb any oxidation.

Depending on how bad any oxidized siding is, there is always a possibility of some of the oxidation rinsing away.

We have no way of measuring the oxidation but the more chalky paint that comes off with a finger swipe, the worse off it is. We cover this during the initial inspection/estimate.

After rinsing the property, we also rinse any plants in the area to make sure any chemical is not left on them. We roll up our hoses, accept payment and you are left with Better Curb Appeal!
